Questrade Global's good, but app could be better

My experience with Questrade Global has been pretty solid for my Registered Education Savings Plan. Setting it up was easy enough, especially since I remembered to use an offer code for some extra perks. The only real bummer is their app; it feels a bit clunky and could definitely use an update to keep up with Wealthsimple or TD Direct Investing.

Easy to use for investments

I opened a Questwealth Portfolios account last month. It was pretty simple to get everything set up. I just answered some questions and they handled the investments. It's nice not having to worry about picking stocks myself. The app shows me my balance, which is all I really need. Everything went smoothly.

Smooth account setup and good support

I set up a TFSA Account with Questrade a few months ago. The online application process was straightforward, and I was able to upload my documents easily. Funding the account took about three business days, which was within their estimated timeframe. I had a small question about linking my bank, and their live chat support agent responded quickly and clarified it for me. The QuestMobile app is functional, though not super fancy. I've placed a few trades for ETFs, and the execution was prompt.

Amazing low fees!

I just moved my LIRA Account to Questrade, and I'm so glad I did! The low trading fees for my ETFs are fantastic. I was worried about the transfer process, but it went smoothly, and they even covered the fees. Their platform is easy to use, even for someone like me who isn't a super active trader. I'm definitely going to recommend them to my friends!

Good value for trading

I opened a Self-Directed Investing account, and the $50 free trades offer really helped. I was able to make a few initial stock purchases without paying commissions, which was great for starting out. It felt like a good deal and made trying them out worthwhile.

Decent value, but app could improve

I opened a Questwealth Portfolio account, transferring some funds from another bank. The transfer fee rebate was a nice touch. The portfolio performance has been as expected, which is good. I did notice the QuestMobile app can sometimes be a bit slow to load, especially when I'm checking real-time data. It's not a deal-breaker, but it could definitely be snappier. Customer service was helpful when I had questions about the initial setup, so that was a plus.

Decent platform with a minor hiccup

I decided to try Questrade for a new RRSP Account because of their lower fees compared to my bank. Setting up the account was mostly smooth, and the transfer fee rebate was a nice incentive. The platform for trading stocks is pretty intuitive once you get used to it. I did notice that sometimes the real-time data for some less common stocks felt a little delayed compared to what I saw on other sites, even with the Level 1 data package. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but it's an area they could improve. Overall, I'm happy with the service and the savings.

Got my TFSA set up

I finally got around to opening a TFSA. Used Questrade because a friend suggested it. It was pretty straightforward to get set up online. Transferred some money in and bought a few GICs. Everything seems to be working fine. No complaints, it did what I needed it to do.

Good for self-directed investing

I signed up for a Self-Directed Investing account to manage my RRSP. The application process was mostly online, which was convenient. Funding the account took a few days, but that's standard. I found the QuestMobile app easy to navigate for buying and selling Stocks. Their market data packages were helpful for making informed decisions. Customer support answered my questions about dividend reinvestment plans promptly when I called. Overall, a solid platform.

Consistently reliable service

I've been with Questrade for several years now, mainly for my Individual Margin Account and some Corporate Accounts. This latest experience, setting up a new RESP Account, was just as smooth as always. Their platform is consistent, and I appreciate that. I continue to come back because they offer low fees and the tools I need without unnecessary frills. It's why I haven't switched to any other brokerage.

Thinking of moving my RRSP from TD. Will Questrade cover the transfer fees?

S Sophie 3 months ago
They totally do! I just transferred my TFSA and they reimbursed me for the fee TD charged. You usually have to fill out a form for it.

S Shane Whitfield 2 months ago
Yep, as long as it's over a certain amount, they'll cover it. Check their site for the exact minimum, but it's a common perk they offer.

How long does it usually take to get funds into my account after I send them? Trying to jump on a stock quick.

D David 1 month ago
Depends how you send it. If it's a bank transfer, it can be a couple business days. Direct deposit from your bank linkage might be quicker if it's set up.

Mine usually show up within 2-3 days from a standard bank transfer. Instant deposits aren't really a thing for big amounts, afaik.

Is Questrade legit? Like, are my investments actually safe with them or should I stick to a bigger bank?

B Beth 2 months ago
They're totally legit, been around for ages. Your stuff is insured by CIPF too, which is the standard.

Nah, they're super reputable in Canada. I've had an account for years, never had an issue. Don't worry about it.

Hey, thinking about opening an account here, but I'm in Toronto. Anyone know how long it usually takes to get set up and start trading after funding?

A Alex Z. 3 months ago
From my experience, once your bank transfer goes through, it's pretty quick. The funding part can take a few business days depending on your bank.

Yeah, if you're doing an electronic funds transfer (EFT), it's usually 3-5 business days for the money to actually clear. After that, you're good to go.

I'm looking at their self-directed option. What are the trading fees like for buying Canadian stocks? Is it per trade or do they have some kind of monthly fee?

M Mia Carter 2 months ago
It's per trade for stocks, like a flat fee. It's way cheaper than what the big banks charge.
1
D David G. 2 months ago
Yeah, it's commission per trade, and it caps out too which is nice if you're buying a big chunk. ETFs are free to buy though!
